Frequently asked questions.

When is the season, and if the season has already begun, can I still get a Member Box?

  • The season runs from late June through October, and during that time, there will be seven Member Boxes coinciding with the arrival of different varieties of our sweet cherries, apricots, peaches, apples and pears.

  • If the season has already begun, you can still sign up for a member box. The price will reflect how many boxes are remaining and how many boxes are already behind us.

Can I pay for membership by the box when I pick up?

  • No. The membership must be paid in full for all upcoming boxes. This allows us to order supplies and to know how much fruit is needed for members in advance of picking, sorting and packing.

When is the first member box available - how frequent will they come?

  • The first box will be made available with our first orchard crop to ripen. This is usually Rainier cherries. The historical average date that they are ready is June 20, however, they have come as early as June 9 and as late as the 4th of July. Late May / Early June weather plays a huge role, and we can usually tell at the beginning of June whether to expect the crop early, late or right around the average.

  • The boxes will always be available for pick up on a weekend (Friday, Saturday, Sunday), and should arrive approximately every two weeks. Of course, some crops will come earlier than expected and might result in box pick ups that are closer than two weeks apart and some crops may be delayed and result in more than two weeks between box pick ups.

Do you take cash?

  • While we take cash, card, and mobile pay, we prefer that customers order ahead of time on our website and that the pick up process has minimal exchange of cash.

Do you take Farm Direct Nutrition Program checks?

  • Yes. To use Farm Direct Nutrition Program checks for fresh produce, please contact us via email at customerservice@valleyvieworchardorganics.com or by phone at 541-488-2840 to place your order. We will collect your checks at pick up. Our email and phone contact information is also available on our website at the bottom of the shopping page.

Can I move my pickup to another day besides the posted store hours or day/time?

  • No. We pick and pack each box to go home with members during the three day pick up window (Friday, Saturday, Sunday) and arrange staffing to provide an efficient pick up experience. During other days, we are busy growing the crop and working on other orchard tasks. We are often elsewhere on the property and not near the store.

Can I substitute out or change items in my Member box?

  • No, the fruit and items that are selected for the boxes are planned well in advance. We aren’t able to accommodate substitutions at this time. It is our hope that you can share box items that you wouldn’t prefer for yourself with neighbors and friends.

Can I purchase fruit, or other items, on a week where there is not a member box to pick up?

  • Absolutely! Both members and other customers can order fruit and/or orchard products for pick up on the weekend whether there is also a member box to pick up or not. Available items can be seen on the website. Members will receive their member discount on all additional items they order.

I’m not familiar with this fruit - can you tell me more about optimal storage and use?

  • Yes! Please see the reference section to find more detailed information on each variety we grow.

Can I add on to my order in person when I come to pick up?

  • Yes, but we’d prefer that you order and pay in advance so we can fill your order and have it ready to go when you arrive for pick up. We do try to have a limited quantity of extra fruit available.

Where can I find a seasonal calendar?

  • Please check out the reference section to see all the fruit we grow and the range of dates that it is usually available. Of course, every season is different, so it’s always best to refer to our online shop to see what is available this week for ordering and pick up.

How will my items be packaged*?

  • Typically, fruit will be packaged in an open box or paper bag.

  • Frozen fruits (sweet cherries, apricots, peaches) are washed, stones removed, sliced and immediately frozen in 1 pound bags.

  • Frozen tart cherries are washed and frozen, but not pitted.

  • For those customers bringing home frozen products, we suggest bringing a cooler or insulated bag to keep your items cool for the drive home.

What are examples of Orchard Products?

  • The orchard makes many items, different every year, and dependent on fruit and honey availability. Products made in the past include:

    • Different varieties of frozen apricots and peaches

    • Pitted and frozen sweet cherries

    • Jam made from our cherries, apricots and/or peaches

    • Gravenstein apple cider, applesauce and apple cider vinegar

    • Peach and pear sauces

    • Honey

What does it mean when you say your fruit is organic?

  • It means that our fruit is certified to National Organic (NOP) standards by an official organic certifier. We have been certified since 2002 and Oregon Tilth is our certifier. Certification involves a yearly inspection to ensure that we followed certified practices all year and used only certified organic materials when growing the crop.

Is your wine organic?

  • No. Our wine is made from our certified organic grapes, but the winery is not a certified organic facility.

What happens if I can’t pick up my box?

  • If you are unable to pick up your Member box, please arrange for a neighbor or friend to retrieve it for you. Each box is perishable, and we are unable to provide proper storage both in terms of temperature and space past the pick up window of Friday - Sunday.
